These principles transform our perspective. These principles are the duct tape that can get us through a bind, when we’re looking for a way to survive a particular circumstance.

In life we are powerless over lots of physical things outside ourselves and because of this, we have come to believe we can’t have what we want. Our inner monologue says we can’t have them. We may choose not to want things becuase we actually believe they aren’t possible. Today, may we allow ourselves to want things because we are worthy.

Humility: the quality of being humble. Human. Humiliation. From the latin Humus, meaning of the earth. Humility is to be grounded and right-sized. Often being humble has a negative connotation in our society, having humility is not being better nor worse. Humility is spiritual because it is balanced. Humility aligns us with reality, we are not dirt and we are not God, we’re in the middle. Today, may we understand the meaning of humility.

Fully inhabiting your physical body right in this moment, what is your problem? Do you have one? Many of our problems are ghosts of the past or future, not in the present moment. This can be a wonderful practice because we realize that many of our problems don’t exist now. Today, I will be here now and know that my higher power has ultimate control over the ghosts of the past and future.

There is only suffering or the absence of it. We try and do behaviors that bring us more peace. Suffering can actually be transformed. When something comes up for us that feels like suffering we can use it as an opportunity to practice. If we feel a thorn or a sore spot that feels like suffering we can watch it and use it as a tool to find greater peace.

Do you feel like you’re searching for the perfect job, the perfect relationship, the perfect circumstances? No matter how perfect our situation is, if our inner state doesn’t match that perfection then we won’t experience it as such. We must hone our inner state in order to experience perfection.

What do you want today? When you want something ponder whether you want the thing or you want the feeling. Are you looking to feel happy, stable, contentment? If you want that feeling there are other ways you can access that feeling. In fact, the thing you want is probably not the best way to access the feelings you want. You have much evidence for this, as all the things you have in your life have not, so far, produced the feelings you want.

We must continually work on the ways which we view and value ourselves. This has a huge effect on how we will feel on a daily basis. If we depend on others to constantly give us an evaluation on who we are, we will be depending on an unreliable source. We may depend on people who don’t know us. In this case, it is much better to learn to value ourselves according to what’s important to us and our beliefs. Today, I validate myself.

Is it worth it to be happy even when we see a future that may not look happy? There are indeed many times when we are oblivious about bad things that are about to happen. Isn’t it wonderful that we can’t know about the “bad” things that are about to happen? We truly aren’t meant to know. We aren’t meant to know about our future difficulties and challenges. We are only meant to know about the challenge that’s right here and now.
