Acceptance of where you’re at. Whatever life experience we’re having today, may we not layer on top of it guilt, shame, or a sense that things are not in order.

We come into this world as an innocent child. Our hearts are very open and we get hurt along the way. We are vulnerable and others hurt us. We lose our innocence, and we are here to learn to do these things anyway. Today, life is not a search to regain innocence.

As human beings we need nurturing. No one is able to be fiercely independent, it isn’t our nature. We have learned to block people’s support and in so doing we have blocked our own access to nurturing. Today, may we learn to accept the support of others and be nurtured.

All too often in life we rely on external comparisons to understand a thing. Judging things externally gives us a lopsided view of the world. We compare our inner state to the outer state of everything. This can cause us much pain and suffering. Today, may we not compare ourselves to the external.

Imagine the feeling of entering a room. When you arrive in the room what are you thinking about? What is the experience that we’re having and that other people are having. Can we arrive in a room with an energy of loving kindness? Or are we too busy with our problems right now? Today, I can arrive in the moment to be available to others and myself.

There are a few ways that spiritual wisdom treats feelings. There is to transcend feelings and do actions despite how we feel, and then there is inviting feelings in as though they were good friends. There are certainly some feelings we feel that we treat with more respect than others. Today, may we be balanced about our feelings. May we not react to them, but also respect them as a guest in our home.

There is a great deal of information in our mind we believe to be the truth, but are actually assumptions. We may pile up assumptions over time and recite them as fact. When we don’t fully investigate information, we create assumptions, and we inevitably create pain. Our mind is always trying to fill in information so that we can have a complete picture of the world, but there is no way our mind could possibly know everything and so we create assumptions. This is one of the main drivers of human drama. Today, may I ask a question instead of creating an assumption.

People do things to me that I don’t hold them responsible for, even when I need to. This is called being a doormat. Being a doormat for other people’s behavior is not a loving spiritual place. We are not meant to accept bad treatment from others. When others treat us with a lack of respect we don’t need to be around for that. We can detach with love.

The truth of the matter is, everyone needs healing. No one is toxic, no one is inherently bad, only misguided and hurt. May we find a place within ourselves to accept that some people hurt more than others. This does not mean we need to spend any time with them, try and heal them, or even tolerate them, however we must try and cultivate compassion for the pain that others go through. We are all in some type of healing process.

The main distinction between religion and spirituality is to access God through a frame or through the lack of a frame. For some, a frame is a helpful way to access and understand God. For others, they may need less of a guided frame. All people experience spirituality differently, and none is wrong or incorrect, only different.

Human beings are always trying to cultivate more divine qualitites. One quality God has that isn’t often talked about is a sense of defenselessness. Nothing can ultimately hurt or affect God, and so God can go through the world and engage with all beings in a completely defenseless manner. We strive to be the type of person who goes through life with arms wide open. We can be truly defenseless, as God is.

It may be no surprise to you that our society is very supportive of self abuse. Beating up on ourselves is a common issue we struggle with. It’s also a common badge of honor to be busy. If you were to read out loud the things you say to yourself throughout the day, would you be able to say that to someone else? Most of us would say no.
