It can be really painful needing things from people. It’s difficult to get our needs met, and it’s painful that we can’t control the outside world. Sometimes we become overly self-reliant in trying to not need anything. Unfortunately, you cannot un-need anything. In this pursuit, you end up abandoning yourself. Today, may we be able to own our needs so we can confront the fear of not getting them met.

No matter how much we work with ourselves on our trauma, shortcomings, or quirks we’d rather not have, we will always be dealing with the ego. Today, instead of listening to the ego, we may detach and know that what it says isn’t the ultimate truth.

The entire range of human emotions are valid and meant to be felt in their fullness. Instead of pushing down negative emotions and accept positive emotions, we are called to feel all emotions with the same fullness. Today, may we accept our emotions so we don’t have to store them away.

There are many reasons we don’t heal. Today we speak of a second reason: we like our old pain. Pain is comfortable! Afterall, we like what we know even if it’s painful. Those who don’t heal are often staying in a familiar painful place.

There are many reasons we don’t heal. Today we speak of one reason: we are caught up in the illusion that the surface layer of life is all there is. We may believe that everything is as it seems. The truth is, there are many layers beyond this physical reality of life. If we can see the things in our life as symbolic, we may have an easier time healing.

We use a lot of language around healing that could be unhelpful. In healing there is this idea of arrival point, but the truth is that healing is a continual process of transformation. Spiritual healing is akin to creating a work of art, rather than stitching up a wound.

What are the things that have happened to you that have made you who you are, that have made you prepare yourself for the outside world? We can name some of those as traumas. We are constantly changed and shaped by trauma. Today, may we be able to show up strong in the world, despite our trauma.

Life embues us with a background of wisdom to know that in the end, we will be ok. One goal of being present in life is to experience events more deeply so that we can learn from them. Every trauma is trying to transform itself into wisdom. Today, may we enjoy the process of life and learn the things we came here to learn.

There’s a healing culture within spirituality- we’re always getting better but are we really there? Sometimes contemplating our healing can set us up for “arrival thinking.” Today we are whole, no matter what healing you may be waiting for.

As human beings we need nurturing. No one is able to be fiercely independent, it isn’t our nature. We have learned to block people’s support and in so doing we have blocked our own access to nurturing. Today, may we learn to accept the support of others and be nurtured.

A lot of things in our life are at play that we’re not even aware of. In our subconscious mind we may have fears, resentments, unconscious drives that make us act in dumbfounding ways. We will attempt to prove whatever the subconscious mind is thinking, even if it’s completely crazy. The things that we do to prove our beliefs often hurt us. Today, may we learn new beliefs that put us in our power.

Another three things! We have these three engines for change in our life. All influence the others, and when one changes the other two must change. Whichever way we choose to approach change, one of these drivers will be in play. Today, may we become aware of how to change.

Everything that ever happens to us it an opportunity to heal, we need only perceive them correctly. When someone says something to us that puts us in pain, sometimes they are speaking to an existing pain that already exists. We have wounds that others touch with their words. Today, may we perceive our spiritual learning in a way that would be productive.

In relationships people choose to deal with difficulties in different ways, whether it’s to run away, cut off, or be in resentment. When we cut off a relationship we also cut off the feelings associated with that relationships. In families we are often inextricably connected to those people and so we get an opportunity to practice working through resentments through many years. We learn to take breaks, develop boundaries, and learn how to keep ourselves safe.

Addictions can manifest in our life in many different forms. It doesn’t have to be about a substance, it could be to a person or to a particular behavior. An addiction is characterized by an unnatural attraction to something that has an obcessive and compulsive nature. An addiction can never be satisfied, and so no matter how many times we come back to that thing we cannot experience satiation. When we’re in addiction we are always trying to medicate something within our being that needs healing. Through the addiction we can temporarily fix our problem, but only through soul work can we heal the problem long term.

Our lives are 100% habits. Every single thing we do is either forming a good habit, a bad one, or reinforcing old habits of any kind. Around 80% of our behavior is actually autopilot. Have you ever traveled somewhere you know how to get to and don’t remember the trip? You might have been on auto pilot. Whatever we repeat in our life is creating patterns. Today, may we create positive habits for ourselves that will carry us into positive feelings.

Life is falling apart and being put back together. Pieces are necessary for a new thing to form. If we’re building a bigger thing, there’s not way the pieces could stay in their small arrangement. If we’re feeling in pieces today we can know that the pieces are not the final product. What is consistent, immutable, and unchanging will always remain.

Physical objects have a lot of meaning within spirituality. Whether it’s an idol to a religious figure or a pair of pants. Different items have different meaning for us. Do you keep some physical object around your living space that reminds you of unworthiness, pain, or helps you feel not good enough? Today, may we release those.

We try our best to avoid pain in life. When we avoid feeling pain, we actually store up and gather pain. All compulsive and addictive behaviors are an attempt to avoid the pain of life that we ultimately must face. Today we can understand those things we do to avoid reality so that we may let go.

Emotions have a really cool spiritual purpose. They act as sacred messengers to us, energizers, or ways to get us to act in a particular way. We have ideas in this world about what we’re supposed to be doing or being. This controlling of emotions is a destructive way of being. May we learn to allow all emotions today.

The truth of the matter is, everyone needs healing. No one is toxic, no one is inherently bad, only misguided and hurt. May we find a place within ourselves to accept that some people hurt more than others. This does not mean we need to spend any time with them, try and heal them, or even tolerate them, however we must try and cultivate compassion for the pain that others go through. We are all in some type of healing process.

Every single person has a particular thing that will make them absolutely crumble: a person, a sentence, a word. For me, that sentence is “you are not enough.” What is it for you? Most of the work that we are doing in a spiritual practice is pointed in the direction of our sore spots. Today we may become more aware of our wounded places.

If we could have unconditional faith in a higher power we would be truly free. Often our faith in God isn’t unconditional, but we do actually have practice with this concept. We have unconditional faith in our perspective and thought formations. What you make in your own mind is what you put your faith into, just to prove to yourself what you believe is correct.

It may be no surprise to you that our society is very supportive of self abuse. Beating up on ourselves is a common issue we struggle with. It’s also a common badge of honor to be busy. If you were to read out loud the things you say to yourself throughout the day, would you be able to say that to someone else? Most of us would say no.

#69

Are you in a work rut? You may want to ask, what are you creating? There may be some habit energy that you are recreating and revisiting through your repeated passage to a thought, feeling, or behavior. Being in the same body and the same environment for our whole lives, we can develop ways of being that we reinforce without even knowing it. How many right turns must one make before ending up in the same place you started? It is this repetitive box that makes up our rut.

#37

Practicing daily affirmations. Sometimes our mind repeats negative and compulsive thought patterns that do not help us with our spiritual work. They may say things like “you’re not good enough,” “no one likes you,” or just plain “you’re fat.” Since our subconscious mind is always listening, we will start to believe whatever we hear repeatedly. It’s necessary to say positive affirmations to cancel out and drown out those negative patterns to get us back on track to love, acceptance, and compassion.

#36

A feeling of brokenness can bring us to our knees. It can feel like not only are we broken, but we are a lost cause. When we feel broken beyond repair we may take actions that are contrary to our integrity and our healing. What’s the point? I’m going to be like this forever. God doesn’t make problems with no solutions. There is a solution out there that is seeking you, go find it.

#22

The world needs great healing, and you are apart of it! When others have forgotten who they are, remind them of the love that is within them by always responding with love. This doesn’t mean we have to let others walk all over us. In fact, if we have good boundaries we can go through life with arms wide open, accepting and giving lovve freely. Any loving word or action is apart of the healing of the world.

#15

Not your typical message about healing. You have to take ownership of your pain before you can take ownership of your healing. Others have hurt you, but you’ve got these cards now, honey, what are you going to do with them? Life is full of things that are not fair but we’ve got to heal anyway. That’s what strength looks like sometimes.
