We view the world through a video camera, which is our two eyes. The experiences of our life are framed by our video camera, and so sometimes the ideas we come away with are not quite the truth. Today, may we become aware that what we think may not be the truth.

Reality is this amazing thing. It’s both this constant and unchangeable thing but also something completely up for interpretation. Our reality is painted by the colors of our experiences. It could be said that every person has their own individual reality.

Want an undeniable and reliable way of finding misery? Complain! Complaining is our way of saying,”my outer experience is not ok, and so I am seeking a fix.” Whenever we are in a seeking from the outside posture, that is a cry for help. Whatever outside influence we find occasion to complain about helps us justify our complaints and our sense of not being ok. Today, may we realize that we are ok here, just as we are.

Unhelpful fears and belief systems can make us blind to consequences. Our denial may turn our pain points into positives. We may have magical thinking. In spirituality we are very familiar with magical or other worldly thinking. However, we must deal with life on some physical level. What are the physical consequences of our actions? Today, we know that we must confront the physical reality of our lives along with the spiritual concepts we know to be the higher truth.

Which needs are authentic and which are artificial? This concerns our power. There are certain things we think we need that we don’t need at all. We can feel this way because we create needs that don’t exist. Today, may we be in touch with the difference between these two types of needs.

Humility: the quality of being humble. Human. Humiliation. From the latin Humus, meaning of the earth. Humility is to be grounded and right-sized. Often being humble has a negative connotation in our society, having humility is not being better nor worse. Humility is spiritual because it is balanced. Humility aligns us with reality, we are not dirt and we are not God, we’re in the middle. Today, may we understand the meaning of humility.

Consider what you spend your time on. What % of the things you do are things you want to be doing? If the % of things you don’t want to do is higher you will probably be less happy. It’s that simple, we need to make times for the things we want to do, not only our responsibilities. Today, I know the time will not come if I don’t make it. I will make time for the things I want to do.

The universe is always trying to balance everything. Whatever we do in this life comes back to us at some point, whether it be in this life or in a later reincarnated life. Karma happens both on the level of action and on the level of intention. Our thoughts are constantly creating our reality.

There are stories we tell about our identity, our life, our experiences, that serve to create pain in our life. This is called victomhood or martyrdom. We carry pain stories that become apart of our identity. Indeed, we view and interpret the world through our pain at times. There may be no other way for us to express our pain except through victimhood. Today, we honor our pain without needing to tell a story about it. We can feel it, instead of telling stories about it.

How do we know what is a symbol of external power? We will know if some source of power is external because time will be able to remove it from us. It can also be anything that we fear to lose. Today, may we cultivate internal sources of power that can never be diminished or taken away from us.

On a spiritual path we may have a sense that our decisions are very important and may change a lot of things in our life. Have we made the right choice, are we on the right path? Today, whatever decision you have made, know that it is the right one.

What are you waiting on today? Knowldege, worthiness, your degree, acceptance? Feel yourself reaching that goal, and know that you may now give that to yourself in this very moment. What are you waiting for? Some furutre time? Instead of waiting to give the gift, give it now.

The purpose of time is for learning. Highly variable, subject to change, not easily measured. It’s essentially another dimension: a sphere in 3 dimensions, and a 4th dimension being time. The episode is concerned with defining and understanding time.

No Life, No Death, only transformation. This is an idea which comes mostly from Buddhism. Nothing in this world actually posesses a particular form, it’s only the form of our perception. This is the essence of signlessness. Nothing is ever in a constant form, but always in flux. As with water, whatever particular manifestation is happening now is not the ultimate truth. Nothing ever dies in this world, it is only transformed.

Our life can feel like all problems if we’re not careful. Be sure not to spend all your time in the problems, but rather live in the middle spaces where the problems aren’t. Problems are ultimately the periphery of life experience, but we may be focusing the camera in on them. Life was not meant to be this way, it is ultimately our mind training. Today, train your mind to be on the serenity that is available in all moments, not the problems.

My Perfect Failure

Today I’m joined by Paul Padmore of My Perfect Failure. We’re talking failure: what it does to our minds, how it shapes our perception and behavior, and ultimately how to channel it for good.

We’re talking about our motivations today. Are we motivated by fear or love? Do we make decisions based on the latter or the former? We’re talking today about a lack of love. The way your inner motivation works will have a dramatic effect on your behavior vs. other people. Learn about your motivation here.

We talk about the present moment often in reference to meditation but living in the present moment doesn’t have to be just in meditation. Most people live in the past or the future and occasionally visit the present moment when it is needed for practical circumstances. Really, we would be better off doing the opposite. For more reading on The Present Moment I would suggest the writings of Eckhart Tolle.

Life is as real as you make it. That’s because it’s your own personal dream. You put on your own special pair of colored glasses that paint the world with your beliefs. You’ve learned behaviors that reinforce your beliefs and you defend your dream of the world to others. One day though, you will wake up and realize you either lived through nightmares or fluffy pink clouds.

The universe is a giant organism with billions of moving parts. Each part works in sync with others, animated by the innate knowledge and energy of the universe. We’re apart of that ancient and all knowing spiritual energy. We are one with not only all humans but all beings, living and inanimate. Woven into the fabric of the universe, we know that we are never separate; our work is for the greater good of the whole.

The ideas of “good” and “bad” are largely made by our mind and shaped by our experience. For the most part, bad things that happen will be remembered differently, even fondly, and the good things that happen will scarcely be remembered at all. Be careful how you judge them when you don’t know the whole story.

The nature of your reality is solely dictated by your beliefs. That is such good news! It means you can create any reality for yourself that you want. You are the master of your beliefs and you can choose to change them at any time. Beliefs are sticky though, so you’re going to need a lot of conscious presence to do it.
